《嗚嗚》 is an original single composed by Goose 我鳥 first released on 29th July 2020. With more than 40,000 streams in its first month of release, Goose 我鳥 partners two reputable Singaporean musicians DSML (David Siow, bassist from M1LDL1FE) and rapper singer songwriter Axel Brizzy to release an alternate version of the song.

《嗚嗚》 explores the joys and pains of communications technologies in the modern day. ‘The irony is that communication technologies have helped sustain relationships for people who are separated by geographical distances, but for those who are seated right beside us, we may drift apart when we become addicted to these devices,’ said Goose 我鳥.

This alternate version of 《嗚嗚》gives a more laid back vibe any chill-hop fans would appreciate. The song’s down-low tones get a darker twist through DSML’s masterful experimentation with the track’s tempo, groove and chord progression. The original vocal take of Goose 我鳥 was also given a hazy filter over top adding to the lo-fi production style.

‘Goose 我鳥 and I go way back, playing underground shows together, so it’s really exciting to be able to work with him in a different manner. What started as a few WhatsApp (yes WhatsApp, not telegram) exchanges ended up in an outpour of creative ideas, and he’s been really receptive to embracing a new sound for this alternative version.’ said DSML.

Another highlight of the song is the rap portion performed by Axel Brizzy. ‘Lets face it, 2020 was utterly disastrous, but it forced us to utilise new forms of communication technologies. Axel was sharp in expressing his thoughts about these experiences in the lyrics that he skilfully penned down. Such a breeze working with Axel too!’ added DSML.

‘I was very relieved when I learned that I did not have to rap in Chinese,’ teased Axel.

This bilingual collaboration brought together artists from three different genres in Singapore’s Mando and English music scene. 《嗚嗚》feat. Axel Brizzy (DSML remix) will be available on all digital streaming platforms from 23 October 2020.

‘Collaborating can be very liberating. As a songwriter, I find myself stuck with similar arrangement styles and ideas very often. It’s refreshing to be able to bounce ideas off another person and it’ll definitely be a treat to our own listeners,’ said Goose 我鳥.
